As moms, we often tell others that we don’t need or want anything when the gift giving holidays of our birthday, Mother’s Day and Christmas come around. While this may be true, it still is nice to get something for ourselves every once in awhile. I struggle finding gifts for my own mom because no gift seems good enough for her. Moms are just hard to shop for!
What if you could shop for gifts for the moms in your life (or yourself) that give back to other moms?
Below are a list of places that either give back to other moms or are locally owned mom businesses with unique products. Tons of cute stuff that any mom would love to receive!
Personal Picks for Locally Owned Mom Businesses:
Why I Love It: I’m a little obsessed with Purple Wagon Girls. This mother-daughter Cedar Rapids based team has the cutest stuff. My girls are outfitted in their custom kids shirts, have skirts made by them, and have so many headbands and bows. My favorite products for moms would be their “witty saying” signs.
Why I Love It: I was just introduced to Emily’s products at Birch and Bauble and I’m obsessed! She creates earrings, other jewelry, wood signs and much more!
Why I Love It: I’m a sucker for farmhouse signs and The Feathered Farmhouse drew me right in with their design. The simplicity of each sign would look good in any room of the house and makes a nice gift for the hard to buy mom.
Why I Love It: Eleanor Ruby Handmade has tons of custom made projects. The bath tray with a spot to hold a wine glass is right up my alley for a Mother’s Day gift. They also have tons of handmade signs, shirts, wine glasses, coffee cups, and more.
Other Great Local Mompreneurs:
Clark and Co. creates custom gift boxes with items from talented makers from all over the globe. Their boxes are chic, beautiful, unique, and contain useful products. The best part is Clark and Co. is owned by a Cedar Rapids mom of two.
Picture You Lovely creates custom, one of a kind portraits and illustrations. You could have a custom portrait done of her children, entire family, etc. Robyn does amazing work and is located in Marion.
Their name alone is awesome, but their products are fun and clever too. They have everything from t-shirts to tumblers. My favorite are their lotion bars, jewelry and aluminum-free, all-natural deodorant. You can find them on Facebook, Instagram or Etsy, plus they will be at the Cedar Rapids Farmers Market starting July 7th!
Gifts That Give to Back to Moms:
Why I Love It: I’m loving their “Four Things Custom Tote”. You choose the four words or phrases that describe you or the person that you’re buying it for and they put them on a tote. Simple idea, adorable product. They also have shirts, hats and sweatshirts with all different designs. I’m subtly leaving the tote up on my computer screen with my “four things” listed for my husband to just click buy!
How Your Purchase Gives Back: The Shop Forward sells items associated with a charity and the proceeds go back to that charity. Their “Four Things Custom Tote” has all proceeds going back to a maternity center in Haiti to provide prenatal care, labor and delivery and six months of postnatal services for Haitian moms.
9. Alex and Ani
Why I Love It: I’ve always been a big fan of Alex and Ani’s bracelets. Their simple design is completely my style. They stack nicely with other Alex and Ani bracelets, your watch, or other bangles. The lotus blossom on this bracelet represents beauty, strength and grace. This is something that I would use to describe any woman or mother.
How Your Purchase Gives Back: For all sales of the Lotus bracelet between January 2018 to December 2019, Alex and Ani will donate 20% of the purchase price back to the Women & Infants Hospital. They are one of the nation’s leading speciality hospitals for women and newborn health.
10. Bird + Stone
Why I Love It: Their jewelry is simple with empowering messages. Items range from bracelets to necklace with gorgeous stones. The price on each item is also not outrageous, so you can stay in budget with a gift from here.
How Your Purchase Gives Back: Each product is made in the United States and donate a portion of their profits to various causes. One of the causes being Women’s Health, but there are several other causes that your purchase can support.
