Maybe you want to know about how to increase your milk supply or when you need to make your child’s first dentist appointment. Meet the Bloom Mom’s Night Out Expert Panel
Shannon Wilson, LMHC
Shannon Wilson is a Mental Health Counselor licensed in the State of Iowa and practices at Murray, Wilson, & Rose Counseling & Behavioral Services. She holds a Bachelors degree in Social Work and earned her Masters Degree in Counseling, Rehabilitation and Student Development in 2010 from the University of Iowa. Shannon has extensive experience treating individuals and couples in a variety of settings. She enjoys working with pregnant women and mothers who may be experiencing difficulties with role changes and identity shift as a result of pregnancy and motherhood, as well as mothers who are experiencing postpartum depression or anxiety issues. Shannon also has a great deal of experience working with individuals who have experienced pregnancy and infant loss and birth trauma. Outside of the office, Shannon is a wife and a mother to three young children. She enjoys getting out and spending one-on-one time with her spouse, as well as getting together with girlfriends.
Kristen Mead, CD(DONA)
Kristen Mead is a certified doula through DONA and has been working as a birth and postpartum doula in the Cedar Rapids area since 2007. Kristen holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Iowa and taught high school vocal music for several years. As a mom of three, she became interested in the birth community due to the difficult birth of her son and became a doula to help other families become more knowledgeable of their birth choices. Currently, she is the Iowa State representative for DONA and is the new Eastern Iowa Regional Coordinator for the Iowa Doula Agency. Kristen feels incredibly honored to work with so many families in the corridor as their doula, teacher, or even their first point of contact with natural parenting at her family boutique, Baby Time, located in Cedar Rapids. Kristen serves all different kinds of families, no matter what their birth choices are, and believes education is the first step to an empowered birth experience.
Teresa Geneser, DMD
Dr. Teresa Geneser is a pediatric dentist at Cedar Rapids Pediatric Dentistry. She grew up in Massachusetts and attended Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, graduating in 2008. After completing a General Practice Residency at Rhode Island Hospital and Brown University, she completed her specialty training in Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Iowa. Dr. Geneser is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and American Dental Association. Dr. Terry lives in Iowa City with her husband, Matthew, and two spirited and beautiful young daughters who continue to keep her on her toes! She loves raising her family in the Corridor and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes!
Erica Smothers, DC
Dr. Erica Smothers is a pediatric and family chiropractor and the owner of Awaken Family Chiropractic in Hiawatha. Dr. Smothers grew up in Cedar Rapids and received her undergraduate degree from Coe College. She went on to receive her Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Palmer College of Chiropractic. While at Palmer, she developed a passion for caring for children and families after witnessing incredible health benefits and transformations when families added chiropractic care to their health and wellness routine. Dr. Smothers opened Awaken Family Chiropractic in 2014 with the goal of creating a community of healthy and thriving children and empowered families. Dr. Smothers is certified in the Webster Technique, a specific analysis and adjustment used with expecting mothers. In her spare time, Dr. Smothers enjoys spending time with her family and being active outdoors.
Diane Martinsen is a Financial Adviser and Recruiter for Primerica Financial Services. She has over 20 years of experience educating families on basic financial strategies. Diane feels extremely fortunate for being introduced to Primerica when she was 27. She was married with a 3 year old son and 6 month old daughter, had a new mortgage, and was balancing work and life. The education she received has now changed 4 generations in her family. Diane enjoys sharing this education with other families to help them save money on taxes, save money on insurance, and get out of debt faster.
Jennifer Pitkin, IBCLC, RLC
Jennifer Pitkin is a Corridor Lactation Consultant that works full-time for the Swiss breastpump company, Ardo. She also volunteers at the state level for La Leche League and is the chair for the Linn County Breastfeeding Task Force. Jennifer has three children with her husband of nearly 10 years, Matthew. Jennifer and Matthew recently bought a home in Marion, and enjoy playing soccer with the kids and their siberian husky in the backyard. Her work and volunteer goal is to help Corridor moms avoid common breastfeeding problems (there are a lot of easy ones to avoid), and to share tips to get things off to a great start!
Scott Nau, MD, FAAP
Dr. Scott Nau is a pediatrician at Mercy Pediatric Clinic in Cedar Rapids. Dr. Nau received his MD from the University of Iowa. He completed his residency in Pediatrics at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, and is Board Certified by the American Academy of Pediatrics. He is a father and grandfather, as well as a longtime resident of Cedar Rapids.
Mark Zittergruen, MD, FAAP, FACC, MBA
Dr. Mark Zittergruen is a pediatric cardiologist at the Mercy Pediatric Cardiology Clinic. Dr. Zittergruen received his education at the University of Iowa and completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Zittergruen and his wife are the parents of five daughters and enjoy spending time with them at home and with their activities. He especially enjoys music and plays piano for Mass at his church. His hobbies include reading mystery novels, board games and puzzles, watching the Hawkeyes, and “pretending to be a gardener.”
